Germany, Volume III (Munich)

If you missed the last post about Berlin, scroll down on this page and it should be there.  If it's not there, check it out here.

After Berlin, I caught a train to Munich.  Here's some of what I saw:

Frauenkirche, Marienplatz

Neues Rathas ("New Town Hall"), Marienplatz

Neues Rathaus, Marienplatz

Neues Rathaus Glockenspiel, Marienplatz

Altes Rathaus, Marienplatz

Karlstor ("Karl's Gate")

Nationaltheater

Viktualienmarkt.  This was taken around 2pm on a Tuesday.  It's usually much busier.

Muenchner Stadtmuseum ([MSM] "Munich City Museum")

Isidor Bach sportsware advertisement, MSM

Zoological Garden poster, MSM

Voelkerschau ("human zoo") poster, MSM.  Unfortunately, this is exactly what it sounds like.  These were very popular during the 19th and early 20th centuries in Europe and the United States.  The ironic thing, however, is that while the white Europeans and Americans gawked at people from Africa or other strange lands, they were completely oblivious to the hilarity of their own facial hair.

Monopteros, Englischer Garten, Munich's largest park.

Chinesischer Turm ("Chinese Tower"), Englischer Garten.

Eisbach ("ice brook") warning sign, Englischer Garten

Eisbach, Englischer Garten

Eisbach, Englischer Garten

Englischer Garten

Munich and the Alps
