Olympiapark, Munich

Part Two of a brief tour of German sporting venues:

Last time, I focused on the eerily awesome Olympiastadion and Reichssportfield in Berlin.  Today, I'll show you the Olympiapark in Munich.  The Park--designed for the 1972 Summer Olympics--has a stadium, multi-purpose arena, TV tower, man-made lake and "mountain," and other attractions.

As well as the 1972 Summer Games, the Munich Olympiastadion hosted matches for the 1974 World Cup and has a much more futuristic look when compared to its counterpart in Berlin.

Clearly, the roof is what makes this arena so incredible.  Made of acrylic glass, designers intended it to resemble the Alps and represent Germany's bright future.  The roof also covers the Olympiahalle, a multi-purpose venue used for concerts and other events.  It speaks for itself and is just really cool looking.

And what's a city without a TV tower?  Don't worry, Olympiapark has one of those, too.

The last picture was taken from the Olympiaberg ("Olympic Mountain").  It's a bit of a misnomer as the highest point is only about 200 feet--it's smaller than the TV tower--but the view of the Park, nearby BMW World, and downtown Munich is great.

Next stop:  Allianz Arena, where I saw German soccer clubs Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen play...
